Every day, we are asked a lot of good dental care questions. We also realize that many of our patients have questions that they think of after they leave our office.

For the convenience of our patients, we have listed the most commonly asked dental care questions below and our accompanying answers.

Q. What is the best toothpaste I can use?

We recommend that you use any ADA approved toothpaste. Look for the ADA symbol on the tube to identify their approval.

Q. What is the best toothbrush I can use?

Rotary toothbrushes are best. We highly recommend the Rota-dent brand toothbrush.

Q. Are all electric toothbrushes the same?

No. Some electric tooth brushes can be damaging. The Rota-dent toothbrush is safer and mimics our office instruments.

Q. Are sealants really necessary?

Sealants are a very effective preventative treatment that we recommend for young patients. It is painless. We simply paint a coat of sealant on the appropriate teeth.

Q. How often do I really need to visit a dentist?

Every 3-6 months.

Q. Do you perform oral cancer screenings?

Yes, in fact we make this a standard part of our examination. It takes more time but we feel that a oral cancer screening is imperative.

Q. What treatments do you suggest for crooked and discolored teeth?

There may be several options. Only through an examination will I be able to discuss the best option for you. However, there are new treatments now available that are virtually pain free and much more convenient for my patients.  One option is the Lumineers brand veneers.

Q. Does a teeth whitening really work?

Our professional whitening system works very well. You will notice a change after the first 2-3 applications with your best results after 2 weeks of continuous use.

Q. Is light technology better for teeth whitening?

No. The one-day teeth whitening system using light technology actually dehydrates the tooth. When the teeth re-hydrate, they look the same.

Q. Do you offer nitrous oxide?

Yes we do!

Q. If my teeth are feeling just a little uncomfortable, should I bother to call?

If it is a concern to you, it is a concern to us. If you are experiencing pain or have a dental concern, contact us immediately. If it is after hours, contact Dr. Tall directly at his emergency numbers.

Q. What should I take if I am experiencing mouth pain?

We recommend Motrin. We feel it is best for any mouth pain.

Q. Is it possible to brush too hard?

Yes. In fact, brushing too hard can wear down the enamel of your teeth, wear grooves into your teeth and cause your gums to recede.
